I was lucky after having my daughter. My recovery was fairly easy and the baby weight easily disappeared. My self control for avoiding high fat, sugar and popcorn (my fav!) was well in tact. All bets were off after having baby #2. Although, the weight initially went away, my self-control was no where to be found. I knew that I shouldn't be binge watching netflixs and snacking each night, but I couldn't help myself. Yes, I was running and doing weights, but really food matters the most and I knew I had to make a change. With my very supportive husband on board as my #1 cheerleader, I signed up to do a 3-day nutritional cleanse to kick start my healthy lifestyle and get rid of the bad habits. I should note that prior to starting the cleanse I had already eliminated chocolate, candy and popcorn from my diet. I think that this was a huge reason why my cleanse was so successful.
Commodity Juicery Smithers offers two different cleanses: a juice cleanse - 6 juices & an immunity shot and a nutritional cleanse - 2 smoothies, 2 juices, 2 salads and an immunity shot. I chose to do the nutritional cleanse because at least I would have some solid food each day. I also thought that I would be able to incorporate some of the shakes/salads into my diet moving forward.
Here's how it went:
I woke up feeling positive and excited to start my cleanse. Unfortunately, I did not pick it up the night before so I had to wait until 9am to have breakfast. With kids waking up at 6am this was hard and I had a headache before even starting. No coffee didn't help either!
The instructions were easy to follow for what to eat when and the first smoothie: Healthy G was delicious. The rest of the day went fairly well until dinner. It was hard watching my family eat meat and carbs - I instantly missed them, but my salad was tasty and I was determined not to cheat so I carried on. Even though I craved meat and carbs, I never felt hungry. I went to bed that night feeling satisfied and ready to carry on with day 2.
A side effect of not having caffeine and having so many nutrients caused me to have a headache most of the day. Again, the salads and juice were delicious (well except for the beet juice...my least favourite one) and I was not hungry all day again. I only had 1 more day left and I knew I could do it!
I really enjoyed having a naturally sweet smoothie as my afternoon snack. It totally curbed any sugar cravings, was satisfying and helped to get me over the hump until dinner time. Tonight, I was hungry for the first time and really just wanted to be done. I knew I just needed to get through dinner and then I'd be home free but I struggled. Thanks to my hubby and friends I was able to stay on track and finish the cleanse with no cheating!!!
Overall, the cleanse was great. Yes, I lost 3 pounds, but it wasn't about that. It was about resetting my diet and detoxifying my body. My headache went away by day 3 and I was feeling great, had lots of energy, and felt satisfied. I decided to purchase my cleanse instead of doing it on my own for the convenience and also because I do not own a juicer. Jeremy at Commodity Juicery Smithers was fabulous in answering my questions and checking in during the cleanse. I would highly recommend anyone thinking about doing a cleanse to talk to Jeremy!
Life after the cleanse has been good. I feel that even though I only did it for 3 days, I am more in tune with how some foods make me feel. I am looking forward to the days and weeks ahead to keep making tweaks to my diet.
For the month of April I am going to do the Whole 30 to continue my journey. Are you interested in joining me? I'll make regular update posts on www.facebook.com/projectwellrounded and our Instagram account #projectwellrounded
